Very beautiful animals you have! Do you work with Dr. Rayor by any chance?

Thanks. No, I'm still in high school, but have met her, and I hope to go to Cornell and have an opportunity to work with her. Dr. Rayor actually sold me one of my tarantulas. I took the picture a couple years ago at one the the "insectapaloza" events. http://entomology.cornell.edu/cals/entomology/news/insectapalooza.cfm (By the way, if anyone in the area wants to go to one of these events, I recommend going towards the end, after most of the younger kids have cleared out.)

The same individual above molted again, as I suspected, it's a male.

Here's a couple of a just molted female from a few years ago. Unfortunately, the male she had been cohabiting with for quite some time ate her during the evening that day.

I'm going to have to separate the smaller individual until it's larger, the one posted above is now more than twice the smaller one.

He has has almost returned to normal color. (He still has a very slight blueish tint.)

So I had shaken off the desire to keep these. Now you two have fired it right back up! GRRR...

Awesome photoset. Have either of you had any breeding going on and or how many are in your enclosures? I had pondered doing a nice 40 breeder with a small group.

I only have two at the moment. I ordered them from Swift's and apparently got the last two. Hopefully the other one will turn out to be a female so I can breed them.
Cornell had quite a few breeding projects going on last time I was there, if my second one turns out to be a male, I'll probably be able to make a trade for a female.

Awesome captures of the freshly-molted ambly! I agree, it does look like a young male. I never get to see them that soon after molting, by the time I realize what's happened they usually look like this:



I suspect this one is a little female.

It has to be a terrorist plot to fill my office with new tanks!!!

Nice pic. I agree that yours looks to be a young female.
This is the first time I've seen one of mine just after molting. I always seen to catch them when they are blue. It was actually pulling it's abdomen out when I first saw it. (By the time I got my camera it had completed molting.)




I moved the smaller individual into a different enclosure, hopefully it will molt soon as well.
