Any of you North Carolina types going to this show this weekend?

This show happens twice a year.

If you're trying to get a local group going, my suggestion is to try to plan it around an existing event that would be a draw for hobbyists anyway. If people are planning on attending the show anyway, you could just arrange a meet-up spot at the show this year, and then schedule a real meeting nearby for he next show. I'll be attending that show, likely Saturday afternoon.

There's also BugFest at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences on September 20. I'll be at that event all day as I'm setting up and running two arachnid exhibits for it. I'm also giving a talk at some point at the museum that day.

WOW! This is a fantastic idea! I love the Carolina Reptile show. I used to do all my purchasing here before Al invented the Internet.

I love Bugfest too! My son who thinks he is survivorman loves the bug food they prepare. I look forward to seeing your exhibits and your talk Wade.

I hate that I missed this weekends show. I will see about making on the 20th. Another event to have in mind is on October 25th for those of us with kids. The Charlotte Nature museum is having a "Spooky Spiders and Creepy Crawlers" Special Event.

Just a reminder to all around Raleigh. Bugfest is this weekend. Wade will be giving a presentation on Tarantulas at 1:00PM tomorrow.

To all that went to Bugfest you would agree what a crowded event it was! Wade Harrell gave very informative presentation about Tarantula and housing them. Not to mention what a great collection he had there. I was very impressed with the setups and beautiful HUGE spiders he had. The table was very good at education the folks there. For all those who live in NC; try to make it next year. My son and I had a great time! We dared each other to eat eat the bug laced food. We ate it all. I especially liked the silkworm sundae!

Great to meet you, and yes, anyone in the central NC area (or Virginia for that matter!) should make a point to check out BugFest. There was a mind-boggling amount of things going on there!

My wife and I love going to Bugfest every year. She wasn't feeling very well, so we didn't stay long this year, but I made sure and saw Wade's tarantulas, even though I had to stand in line for 20 minutes. I had no idea about the talk, however. I really need to read this thread more often, especially since I completely forgot about the reptile show.

We ended up not going this past Saturday. I called for information on this and it was geared up to be more of a Halloween party than anything else. From what I could tell most of the "Creature" exposure was going to be through story books.

I'm new to the forum and live in Raleigh. I'd be interested in meeting if someone can get an event together. Anyone near Raleigh selling T's? I've cared for Chilean Roses before, and am getting back into the hobby. Thanks,

Welcome Michael. Not sure if there are any breeders here in NC. We have not been able to pull off a get together. We are spread out across the state from Yadkinville to the coast i believe. If you lurk around you will see there are some highly reputable breeders on the ATS who ship every where. PM me if you would like some suggestions.

Thanks for the reply. As far as breeders go, I was looking locally to save some money (no shipping charges!), especially since I am back in school full time. Once I rejoin the working world I will get back to you about some breeder advice. Thanks again,

I was going to point out that if you were lokking for a G. rosea again, you may work out better using one of the dealers out of state as opposed to say a pet store since there are no local breeders I am aware of. Most of the prices for this species I have seen range in the $5-10 range for the T and about $25 for shippping with live arrival Guarantee. (Most also throw in a freebie as well). Last time I saw a G. rosea for sale in a pet store it was approx 25-30. Just FYI

Thanks for the helpful info Joe. I pm'd you about breeders. What T's do you keep? I've kept two G. Rosea's, in the past and they were great. Unfortunately when I went back to school I had to let the next biology teacher care for them since I purchased them with the schools money! I interested in the G. Rosea mostly because of how cheap they are. I would love to get a B. smithi, A. avicular or A. versicolor someday...like when I have the funds.

Is anyone going to Bugfest tomorrow? I'm hoping to catch Wade's talk at one.
