Thanks! I've been a member for a while but just signed up at the forum. I'm also over on arachnophiles, been there a little while. Nice to be here though!

There are so many discussion boards with different communities, so I always suggest folks feel around until they find one that fits. Hopefully you'll find this one or parts of it, comfortable.

I like your pictures! The ones of your Avic avic turned out great! I have one I think is beautiful, but I haven't been able to get a good picture of her.

I had completely forgotten about this thread. I have so -so- many more tarantulas and photos to share with you all. Here is my beautiful Aphonopelma sp Cochise female: And my equally beautiful Aphonopelma waconum female, named Mustache, looking a little rough and in desperate need of a molt (abdomen got extremely dark just a day after this photo was taken, and is now shiny!) M. robustum juvie, "Ryu": A before and after of my Nhandu chromatus recently molted...ate the exuvium though of course. A couple of shots of my Poecilotheria rufilata, "Verde" when I had to pull the poor dear from her home to clean it (lost a bolus and it attracted all sorts of nasties)...she's a sweetie but very shy: An adorable closeup of the tarsal claw of my G. rosea female Daisy (pictured earlier with the giant marble)...also, I believe she is gravid One of my new slings, a G. rosea RCF, who is completely and utterly insane and fears NO man. I named it Courage. And my C. darlingi babe, an amazing, curious little feller that's got a lot more of a sweet and inquisitive demeanor than I expected from a baboon (the thing is friendlier than the rosie sling, that's for sure!)

But wait, there's more! This here is Persephone, my Nhandu coloratovillosus..I could take pictures of her all day. Nellie, my Nhandu carapoensis, also very photogenic. This -was- my B. emilia, but I traded her for the RCF and C. darlingi slings pictured before..but I love this picture so I have to share: Avicularia diversipes "Gossamer", who actually just recently molted as well but won't come out of the tube web.. Hedwig, my Nhandu tripepii sling, who is my little guard tarantula.. A bag of P. cambridgei toes! Lightning, premolt...she has since molted but I can't seem to get a good picture of her.. so this was the best i could do..for now. Moses, my male A. avic molted recently as well and re-grew his missing leg. Still not mature, but definitely close. C. bertae sling, "Happy" (birthday present..Happy Bertae, get it? heh.) ..haven't gotten a good shot since unpacking, but definitely a great eater! I traded this little guy for some supplies, but he is a B. albopilosum and I just love this picture. Best shot I could get of my Ephebopus uatuman, Emory. I rehoused him/her into a permanent home at the end of last year. Ate the molt, so no sex. This is my Kochiana brunnipes sling, "Littlest One" on the day I received it, has since molted and is showing adult colors already! And last but certainly not least is my sweetheart Grammostola pulchripes, "Granola"...assumed male but still unsexed. Badly needs a molt, but I love him to death.

The G. pulchripes picture is very nice! I always suggest that species as a great beginner, and that picture shows why.

Well good luck on your photo purchase. I sometimes wish for a point and shoot, and your pictures show how far they've come.
Of course I'd never give up my DSLR.

Very, very cool photos of super awesome spiders. I have to admit that I have somewhat of a tarantula foot fetish, so I love the close-up shots! Well done, and thanks for sharing!

Thanks everyone. Yes, I appreciate the fact that the point and shoot can capture decent macro - but besides the desire to take better photos in general, the other reason I hate my camera is that it spends about half of its time malfunctioning. Refusing to turn on, refusing to focus, draining the batteries in a very short period of time...its really pretty ridiculous for a person who takes as many pictures as I do. I can't wait to get something that suits me better. I took some shots tonight. My Aphonopelma cochise, Lucinda, already had water in her dish but apparently didn't realize it..I added more to it and she perked right up and walked over. She raised herself up on her front legs almost like a jumping spider. It appeared like she was "looking" at me, though she was probably filling her booklungs with air? Then she just dove right on into the water dish face first and drank for like five minutes. Then she wandered off and covered her face as if to say "no more pictures please." This is Tank. She's an adult female A. hualapai, no more than 2 inches. She apparently wasn't hungry, but here's a decent shot of her. And this is Lightning, the P. cam. Its embarrassing that i have to take pictures of her from behind the plastic. But this is like the best shot I've gotten of her yet! I swear one day I'll get her out.

I'm angry. My sister's iPhone takes better pictures than my $400 camera. Courage, RCF baby: Lightning, P. cambridgei: Fizzgig, recently molted N. chromatus:
