Cages are kept in temperature controlled spider room. 24 hour temp is between 78 and 82 degrees. Cages are rubbermaid totes with a few holes drilled in the sides to allow some airflow, but retain humidity. Pairing was done in the mornings as evening pairings didn't result in any attempt to court by the male. Male was skittish, but if allowed to walk in to her cage on his own he would immediately begin shaking.

The eggsac was mostly infertile, but there were a handful of slings that made it to 2nd instar. Most the dead eggs lacked any development leading me to believe they were infertile.

I am having a hard time telling if that male was killed by the female, or was really small. The picture with the ruler.

He survived. The magical male-saving stick (which you referred to as "ruler" above) made the shot because I saw the little guy was about to be munched so I had to help him. He made it out safely and he survived another pairing with a different female. He's still around now more than 1 year after his ultimate molt.
