In Arizona right? Almost certainly Orthoporus ornatus. They can vary a lot in color from the reddish brown, to yellow and brown banded ones from Texas. They make pretty good pets, they're easy to keep (they eat most veggies) and are not as moisture sensitive as most species (but they still need some moisture). Breeding is something of a mystery though, as far as I'm aware this species has never been bred in captivity. These are not seen most of the year and come out mainly during the rainy season. Likely seasonal changes trigger breeding and egg laying and these can be hard to simulate indoors.

How do you find a millipede anyway? Where would they likely hide?

I never had an interest in millipedes, but now, having won some on the raffle, and seeing how fast they devourd the wood I put in, Im curious about other species!

Orthoporus are often abundant on the surface right after a rain, but otherwise look for them under logs and rocks and other places where moisture is trapped. This is true for most millipedes.
