Default Jay Leno

Last night, Jay Leno (late night chat guy, for those who don't know him) had the "Bug Guy" (sorry, I can't remember his name) from the LA Zoo. Jay was joking that as long as the writer strike goes on, he would have every creature that can walk, creep or crawl across his desk ("Next week ... Crustaceans!") LOL.

Anyway... The critter guy had an Asian Orb Weaver (no specific species), a really beautiful Mexican Red Knee (B. smithi - but no scientific names for any given) that huddled up from the lights and a "Malaysian Blue" (? what it was but it was a nice, showy T). He gave good info but wasn't on long enough. Jay kind of rushed him.

Also shown were a couple large roaches and an Elephant Beetle.

Jay hammed it up a bit when the smithi was put on his hand, but he did a good job. All the critters were well mannered and excellent ambassadors.

That was Brent Karner, curator of the Insect Zoo at the L.A. Natural History Museum. He's a good friend, possesses a wealth of knowledge about invertebrates and he's a great drinking buddy, especially while in the field.
I supplied the B. smithi and the Cyriopagopus species Singapore Blue. The Blue is actually my "pet" and is a non-defensive, non-aggressive sweetheart.
Brent said the only time she was jumpy was when the band was rehearsing.
But, yeah, good stuff for sure, and I'm trying to get Brent out to the Conference this year.

NICE!!!!

He handled himself very well, and spoke eloquently.

I really enjoyed that, and laughed a few times!

Thanks for the fill-in, Chris. Brent did a great job and was a very positive ambassador. That Blue was gorgeous, and the smithi as well. I can imagine that with all the bass, she would get a little jumpy! Thank you for supplying them.
