Default Little guest in one of my terrariums...

I thought this was amusing and wondered if it may cause any harm. I found a true spider living in my G. rosea terrarium. It looks like it is an Achaearanea sp., but that is because I looked it up on the web - I am no expert.

From the pics it looks like she molted about 3 times while living it up in there. We had a springtail invasion at the water dish recently but that problem is gone now. Also, we had accidentally dropped a small cricket into the enclosure and we found that in the web.

I wondered if this spider could potentially harm my Tarantula (she is about 4.5" adult). Here are some pics I took:

It's Steatoda triangulosa. I have them in my house too. Troll said they can hurt T's, but I've never witnessed it

I'm sure it's size dependent. I've had various small spiders in my enclosures, and welcome them.

Wow! You guys are good! I knew you would come through, Emily

Christian, it makes me feel better that you have had species in your terrariums as well. We will probably be feeding this one too.

size and web construction. if the Steatoda trip/anchor lines connect to the ground and the T bumps them the Steatoda may come down and bite them. half grown S.grossa i believe it was that were the ones being used when this was discovered.

My advisor reported being bitten by a S. triangulosa with effects (slight redness, swelling, itching) lasting for 1 wk. This was surprising as I have never even been bitten by any Theridiid. I guess she just spooked it somehow.

ahh i was wondering what their bites were like, S.grossa is usually a bit worse with slight abdominal cramping and nausea on top of those other symptoms. ive only come across S.triangulosa once round here and it was up on Mt.Diablo jsut below 3000'

yeah, i read a paper somewhere, and i remember reading that S. grossa will cause a milder version of "Latrodectism"

Basically, similar symptoms, but less intense.
