Default hike 01/06/2008

went for a hike today to check out storm damage at one of the parks i like and do some rock/board flipping, heres what i came across
Serradigitus g. striatus


some sort of millipede, ill inquire as to the species in the milli forum. it i assume is an adult since ive never seen them any bigger


juvenile Stone Centipede and some sort of spider

yeah i was surprised to see the scorp they usually dont start makeing an appearance till end of feb/march. storm was alot of heavy winds and rain worse to hit us in few years

i was actually hopeing the storm had caused the creek to flood higher then where the trapdoor burrows start allong the path in this one area so i could get pics of that but no such luck

we think the B. californicum burrows are waterproof against rain... and from seeing how nice the fit and finish is and how had they can wedge the door shut... i wouldn't be surprised if they could last a couple days with their burrow doors under water



also, from the thickness of that true bug's front legs i wouldn't be surprised if it was an assassin
